MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks women's soccer team (1-11-2, GSC: 0-8-2) battled with the Christian Brothers Buccaneers (3-10-1, GSC: 1-9-0) on Sunday afternoon in Gulf South Conference play at the Memphis Sports and Events Center; however, it was CBU who used a late goal to claim victory in the 3-2 match.
Za'Keya Charles turned in a quality appearance, with a goal and an assist and all four shots being on goal.
Lacie Goodale posted a goal and an SOG.
Karla Guzman-Ortiz posted three saves against six shots faced.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
AUM scored first when Goodale blasted in a shot with an assist from Charles in the 11th minute.
The Bucs responded with two straight goals, starting with a score from Ana Dutra at the 28th-minute mark, thanks to an assist from Woolridge. Then, in the 31st minute, Lara Sanchez scored with an assist from Haggstrom to give CBU a brief 2-1 lead.
The Warhawks scored just minutes later, as Charles scored unassisted in the 33rd minute to even the contest at 2-2, a tally that persisted until the late game-breaking score.
Second Half
The match winning score came in the 84th minute when Madison Woolridge found the lower right part of the goal off an assist from Lia Haggstrom to break the 2-2 tie that stood for over 50 minutes.
UP NEXT
AUM returns to the AUM Soccer Complex on Halloween for a GSC matchup against Mississippi College, starting at 5 p.m. AUM will also host pumpkin painting during the contest.
