JACKSON, Tenn. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks volleyball team (3-20, GSC: 2-13) fell in a three-set match to the Union University Bulldogs (5-18, GSC: 3-13) to conclude a weekend road trip on Saturday afternoon from Fred DeLay Gymnasium.
AUM saw
Anyaliz Rodriguez total a match-high 11 kills to lead the Warhawks, and
Addi Vinson added 15 assists and nine digs.
Parker Goff and Elizabeth Gilbert each had nine kills to lead Union, while Sarah-Kate Savage also had 17 digs and five aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
Despite the Lady Bulldogs evening the set early at three points each with a service error, they were able to recover with a 4-1 run to lead 7-4.
However, thanks to three kills from
Jaslyn Montgomery, AUM responded with a 9-2 run to make it a 13-9 lead and forcing Union to take a timeout.
Unfortunately, the Lady Bulldogs made things interesting, as they rallied from the four-point deficit to even the set at 18 after two kills from Parker Goff.
AUM tried to pull away with kills from
Kendall McCain, but four straight by UU saw them steal the opening frame, 25-22.
Set 2
The Warhawks came out strong in the second set with a 7-2 run thanks to two kills by McCain. However, the lead did not last long, as the Lady Bulldogs responded with a 7-1 rally to reclaim the lead, 9-8.
AUM saw its lead swell to four, 17-13 on kills from
Emily Brown and a kill and solo block from Montgomery, but Union rallied to come-from-behind again and steal another set. The Lady Bulldogs ended the set on a 9-0 run to win 25-18 and take the 2-0 match lead.
Set 3
Despite a competitive battle early, the Lady Bulldogs were the first to 15 with an Elizabeth Gilbert and Natalie Supine assisted block to lead 15-11.
The Warhawks did go on a 5-1 run to even the set at 21.
Sofia Cerebuch had a kill and a block assist during the rally and
Anyaliz Rodriguez tied it with a kill of her own.
In spite of the Warhawks taking the 23-22 lead with a Union attack error, the Lady Bulldogs got to match point first. However, the Warhawks kept the set alive with a big side out on a kill by Rodriguez to even the set at 24 and force extra points.
Union responded quickly with back-to-back points to win the set, 26-24, and take the match in three sets.
