AUM Slowed by Hurricanes on the Road

AMERICUS, Ga. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks women's basketball team (0-5) got 16 points from Samya Brooks and 13 points from Tamora Brown, but the Georgia Southwestern State University Hurricanes (3-2) came away with an 81-49 win Saturday at the Storm Dome.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
A cold-shooting first quarter plagued the Warhawks early, as AUM made just three field goals in the opening period.

After a Brooks layup in transition put AUM in front by one at the 5:22 mark, the Hurricanes outscored the Warhawks 16-4 the rest of the quarter to take a 20-9 lead into the second quarter.
 
Second Quarter
The Hurricanes surged to their largest lead of the first half with 4:22 to go in the second quarter before taking a 37-23 lead into the halftime intermission.
 
Third Quarter
A hot-shooting third quarter for Georgia Southwestern all but sealed the win for the home team.

The Hurricanes shot 10-for-13 from the field in the third quarter, good for 76 percent, made one three-point field goal, and went 6-for-8 from the foul line to outscore the Warhawks 27-16. 
 
Fourth Quarter
AUM was saw strong efforts from Toccara Stagnaro and Shelby McAllister, but GSW's 17-point quarter allowed the home team to take an 81-49 victory over the orange and black.
 
NOTABLES
- Shane' Jackson dropped 30 points to lead all scorers in the game. She went 14-for-15 from the field and ripped down 11 rebounds to finish off the double-double.
- Ray'ven Robinson added 12 points, and Janiya Johnson scored 10 points as well.
- The Hurricanes' bench outscored AUM 53-10, while GSW outpaced the Warhawks 48-12 in the paint.
- Georgia Southwestern also scored 23 points off 18 AUM turnovers.
- Brooks tallied 16 points to lead the Warhawks in scoring. Brown added 13 points, four rebounds, and two steals.
- Nevaeh Small cleared 11 rebounds for the second straight game and collected her fourth straight game with double-digit boards.
 
UP NEXT
Next up for the Warhawks is a short ride to Alabama State University to take on the Hornets on Monday, December 1 at 5 p.m.
