LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks women's tennis team took part in the Gulf South Conference's Fall Tournament over the weekend, with
Melissa Yakup Pour playing her way into Sunday's championship final. The event was hosted at the University of West Alabama and is set to wrap up on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Yakup Pour won her opener 6-2, 6-2 before following up with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the quarterfinals. The semifinal match was tightly contested but saw Yakup Pour advance with a 7-6, 6-4 win, but she was ultimately tripped up 6-4, 6-1 by West Florida's Guadalupe Martinez in the final.
Nagisa Yonezawa emerged with a 7-6, 6-1 victory in the first round before falling in three sets in a tough quarterfinal matchup. Likewise,
Ana Clara Campigotto won her first match 6-3, 6-1 but came up short in three sets in the following round.
Mercedes Garcia Cid fell 6-0, 6-4 in the round of 16, while
Allison Blanco was defeated by a tally of 6-3, 6-4.
Sofia Neri took her first set 6-0 before dropping the second set 7-6 and eventually the deciding set 10-7, while
Valeria Garcia Chavez fell in a three-setter of her own in the fourth flight.
Doubles
Ana Clara Campigotto and
Sofia Neri took down the Delta State duo of Lena Kuehn and Xinyuan 6-1 in the first round before seeing a 6-2 victory over Valdosta State's Charleigh Fay and Ena Arnautovic in the quarterfinals. The tandem's run came to an end when they fell to Montevallo's Sophia Baillos and Latizia Bojara 6-2 in the semifinals.
