MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The AUM baseball team split a doubleheader with Trevecca Nazarene on Friday at QV Lowe Field. The Warhawks got a 4-3 come-from-behind win in the first game before falling 11-2 in the second contest.
AUM moved to 4-5 on the season and 1-1 in Gulf South Conference action. TNU is now 3-5 and 1-1.
GAME ONE - AUM 4, Trevecca 3
Brendan York went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI in the first game, advancing from second to home on consecutive wild pitches to score the game winning run in the eighth.
TNU went up 3-0 with two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth. AUM got a run back in the sixth when York hit a 2-out single that scored
Cole Strachan. In the eighth,
Hayden Grier and
Riley Orr reached on errors to set the table. Grier scored on a wild pitch and Orr came home on a
Kyle Hipp ground ball to tie it at three, seting up the advancement of York on the wild pitches.
Brett Pitts came on an struck out the side in the ninth for the save.
Jackson Reed (1-0) earned the win in relief, striking out three in three inning while allowing a run on a hit.
GAME TWO - Trevecca 11, AUM 2
After TNU scored a run in the third, AUM claimed a lead with a pair of unearned runs on RBI hits from
Tyrese Rooks and York.Â
The Trojans bounced back and erased the 2-1 deficit with three runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to grab a 10-2 lead.Â
Jonathan Smithson (1-1) picked up the win for the Trojans, working five innings while striking out five and leaving with a 7-2 lead.
The teams will play the rubber game on Saturday at noon.
