MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The AUM men's basketball team suffered a 78-68 loss to Montevallo at Central State Bank Arena on Saturday night.
Max Ndiaye came off the bench to lead the Warhawks with 14 points on a career-high four 3-pointers. The freshman played a career-best 24 minutes and was 5-of-9 from the floor.
AUM (9-14, 6-12 Gulf South) shot 44 percent and was 13-of-14 at the free throw line, but also committed 15 turnovers.Â
Arion Lewis finished with 13 points, five rebounds and four assists, while
Trent Coleman had 11 points, a team-high six rebounds and two steals.
The first half went back and forth for the opening 11 minutes before AUM got a pair of Coleman free throws and a Lewis jumper to grab a 21-20 lead with 8:26 to play. The Falcons responded with a 10-0 run to regain a lead they would never relinquish.Â
UM led 43-33 at the break.
In the second half, AUM pulled to within 62-60 with just under eight minutes to play. Again, the home squad rallied with an 11-0 run for a 73-60 lead to create enough of a cushion to secure the victory.
The Warhawks are tied for eighth in the GSC standings with four games remaining in the regular season. The top eight teams make the Truist GSC Men's Basketball Championship.
UM (16-8, 12-6) made 52 percent of its shots and outrebounded AUM 33-26. The Falcons also scored 15 points off 12 offensive rebounds. Derek Moore led all players with 24 points and nine boards.
AUM will return to play Thursday night when it plays host to No. 4 Alabama Huntsville at the AUM Athletics Complex. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
