LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The AUM baseball team suffered a 6-5 loss in 12 innings to West Alabama at Tartt Field on Friday.
AUM moved to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in Gulf South Conference action. UWA improved to 6-7 and 2-2.
The Warhawks fell behind 2-0 when the Tigers scored a pair in the bottom of the first on a 2-run single by Blake Vineyard.
AUM bounced back with RBI singles from Brenden York, Landon Bader and
Kyle Hipp in the third, fourth and fifth innings, respectively, to grab a 3-2 lead.
UWA regained the lead in the home-half of the fifth on back-to-back home runs from Joe Watkins and Jake Goolsby for a 5-3 advantage.
The Warhawks battled back once again, getting an infield RBI single from Hipp in the seventh and a
Zach Dew sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth to knot it at 5-5.
AUM had chances in extras to take the lead but stranded runners in scoring position in both the 10th and 11 innings. The Warhawks left 11 runners on base.Â
AUM outhit UWA 13-8 and got a 4-hit, 3-run day from
JC Tunnell. York, Hipp and
Tyrese Rooks all had two hits each as well.
Starting pitcher
Clay Slagle struck out seven Tigers in six innings, but also allowed five runs on five hits.
Lucas Baggett and
Charlie Bagwell combined to allow just one run in 4.2 innings of relief.
Brett Pitts (0-1), came on in the 11th and got out of a jam, but allowed the game winning run in the 12th on a bases loaded single.
The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday to conclude the series, with the first game starting at 1 p.m.
