MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The AUM men's basketball team fell to West Alabama, 75-61, on Senior Day at the AUM Athletics Complex on Saturday.
UWA pulled out to a 31-9 lead as AUM struggled to make shots. The Warhawks battled back to within 38-24 at the half. UWA shot 52 percent in the opening 20 minutes compared to 29 percent for AUM.
In the second half, AUM came out on fire, making a pair of 3-pointers and two dunks to pull within 42-36 just 3:40 into the period. But UWA answered and got the lead back to 14 points a few minutes later. The Warhawks fought back to another 6-point margin with 5:26 remaining but were unable to get any closer.
AUM is now 9-16 overall and 6-14 in the Gulf South Conference, sitting in a tie for eighth place with two games remaining.
Trent Coleman tied his season-high with 23 points, while adding 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. He has scored 45 points in the last two games.
Malachi Rhodes added 12 points and nine boards.
UWA improved to 13-13 and 10-11.Thaddeus Williams led the Tigers with 17 points and 13 rebounds. UWA shot 44 percent in the game and was 9-of-21 from outside.
AUM will travel to Valdosta State on Thursday and West Florida on Saturday to close out the regular-season. The top eight teams will qualify for the Truist GSC Championship.
