CENTRAL, S.C. - The AUM baseball team scored twice in the 13th inning to come away with an 8-6 road win over Southern Wesleyan in 13 innings at C Keith Connor Field on Friday afternoon.
Zach Dew and
Hayden Grier each had three hits to lead the AUM (1-4) offense. The Warhawks pounded out 14 hits for eight runs - both of which are season highs.
Lucas Baggett (1-0) picked up the win after allowing just two hits over three innings.
Clay Slagle struck out four in four innings.
Jackson Reed works three innings and fanned six of the 12 batters he faced.
Jayce James was also efficient on the mound, giving up just two hits in three innings
AUM started off hot with five runs in the first inning, highlighted by a 3-run blast to left field by Dew. The Warriors tied it at 5-5 with a run in the first and four in the second.
Grier hit a double in the fourth that score
Cole Strachan to put AUM ahead 6-5. SWU tied it in the fifth by scoring on a wild pitch.
That was the way things stood until the 13th when
RH Frankland led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice and then tagged up to advance to third on a fly out. He scored the winning run on a ball put in play by
Tucker Burns that was mishandled by the first baseman. Burns then stole second and scored on a Tyrese Brooks triple to give the Warhawks some insurance.
The Warhawks will play twice on Saturday, facing Limestone at 10 a.m. Central Time and SWU at 2 p.m.Â
