Softball splits two games at Eagle Classic on Friday

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – No. 6 Auburn University at Montgomery Softball (3-2) split on day one of the Eagle Classic with a loss to Embry-Riddle and a win over Florida Tech.

In game one the Warhawks were outhit 10-4 by Embry-Riddle and fell 8-4.

Freshman, Reese Cauley led the way in game two for the Warhawks with four RBIS and her second win in the circle. AUM exploded for six, third inning runs to run-rule Florida Tech 9-1.
 
Game 1 – AUM 4, Embry-Riddle 8

Embry-Riddle started the scoring and took a one-run lead in the bottom of the first inning. AUM was held scores through two innings before they got on the board in third, on a RBI from Chloe Baynes to tie the game at one apiece. 

The Eagles loaded the bases in the bottom half of the third inning and scored two more on a two-out, double. They would score five in the third inning to increase the lead 6-1 headed into the fourth inning. 

AUM shortened the Embry-Riddle lead and answered with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. Sydni Free entered the circle and replaced Chelisa Newsome in the bottom of the fourth. Newsome went three innings and allowed seven hits and six runs, while only one earned run. 

Embry-Riddle added two more runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning to stretch the lead back to five. Reese Cauley drove in Haley Ann Frank in the fifth to scratch a run back for AUM. 

A scoreless sixth and seventh innings kept the eagles on top to take the 8-4 victory. 

The Warhawks were 4-25 at the plate and committed two defense errors in game on Friday. 

Game 2 – AUM 9, Florida Tech 1

AUM jumped ahead early with a run in the first inning, on a RBI double from Cauley that scored Chloe Derrick. Another run came across in the second inning on a RBI from Meredith Kellum that scored Rebecca Komers

In the third, AUM would plate six runs, and Cauley delivered a three-run HR. Lexie Bullock would also drive in a pair on a single up the middle.

The Warhawks were held scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings before Florida Tech hit a solo shot for their first run of the game. Haley Ann Frank scored Lexi Bullock in the sixth to put the run-rule back into effect and end the game after six innings.

Cauley picked up her second win of the season in the circle for AUM. The freshman tossed six innings and allowed just two hits and one run with five strikeouts. At the plate, Cauley also added four RBI with a three-run HR. 

Offensively, Bullock would add a pair of RBI on two hits. Komers was also 2-3 at the plate with a triple and two runs scored.

AUM will return to action tomorrow morning and take on Newberry at 10 a.m. CT and Embry-Riddle at 12:30 p.m. CT.
