Softball sweeps series with Lee to win seventh straight game

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – No. 2 Auburn University at Montgomery Softball (15-3, 8-1) won both games on Saturday to sweep Lee (10-8, 2-5) and win its seventh consecutive game. 
 
The Warhawks sweep second consecutive GSC series and win the seventh game in a row.   
 
Game 1 – AUM 5, Lee 1
 
Chelisa Newsome improved to 6-1 with a shutout win on Saturday. She threw seven innings and allowed four hits and one earned run. 
 
The Warhawks offensive capitalized on the Lady Flames defensive errors to plate five runs. Lee's defense committed five errors in game two of the series. 
 
Bullock drove in three runs to lead AUM offensively. She got the scoring started with an RBI in the first inning to put AUM in front.
 
In the third inning, AUM added three more runs to increase the lead to four.  Lexi Love scored Haley Ann Frank on a single, and Bullock's double scored a pair. 
 
Lee was able to scratch a run across in the fifth inning before AUM responded with another and made it 5-1 after five innings. 
 
Newsome held the Lady Flames scoreless for the remaining six out of the game to give AUM its sixth consecutive win on the season. 
 
Game 2 – AUM 10, Lee 7
 
The Warhawks battled back from a five-run deficit to complete the sweep over Lee. 
 
AUM jumped ahead early with a run in the first inning for consecutive games now against Lee. Baynes singled on a bunt and came in to score on a wild pitch for the first run of the series finale.
 
Lee doubled its run production total for the weekend and scored two in the second inning for its first lead of the series as well. They stretched the lead to three on a two-out double that scored a pair of runs. 
 
The Lady Flames led 4-1 headed into the bottom half of the second. 
 
Avery Dickerson came in for Reese Cauley in the top of the third. Cauley tossed just two innings in the series finale. 
 
The Lady Flames added two more in the third inning to stretch the lead out to five. 
 
AUM rallied in the fourth inning and scored five runs to tie the game at six. Lee quickly responded with a run in the top of the fifth after a pair of errors on the AUM defense.
 
AUM regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth, its first lead since the first inning. Bullock tripled to tie the game at seven and scored the run that gave the Warhawks the lead on a RBI from Kellum. Baynes increased the lead on her fourth RBI of the game that scored Sneed and Kellum. 
 
Dickerson held the Lady Flames in the seventh to get her first win of the season. She threw five innings, allowed just two hits and one earned run.
