MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The AUM baseball team fell to Columbus State, 14-2, on Faculty-Staff Appreciation Day at QV Lowe Field on Tuesday.
The Warhawks finished with six base runners as they will enter the weekend with a 7-16 record.
AUM will continue the current homestand this weekend against Christian Brothers. The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at noon and a single game on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Griffin Stewart (0-2) took the loss after working three innings with three strikeouts and three hits, leading to three runs.
CSU (10-10) had 16 hits and four home runs. Tucker Starling (2-0) earned the win in relief after striking out two and retiring all six batters he faced.
CSU struck first with a 2-run double by Cody Ferguson in the opening frame.
The Warhawks evened it up in the bottom of the frame when
Brendan York was hit and
Kyle Hipp deposited a Sawyer Wilson offering over the wall in left center for his team-leading fourth homer.
The Cougars went ahead in the third, 3-2, with a solo shot by Luke Miller. They added two more in the fourth when Warrick Wilmot hit a 2-run homer to right center.
Cole Eison led off the fifth with a homer, extending the CSU lead to 6-2. Two batters later, Cody Ferguson made it 7-2 with his third long ball of the year. Wilmot came home after Luke Miller was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Ian King cued one of the end of his bat and drove in Rubin as the Cougars went ahead 9-2.
CSU put two more runs on the board when Ian King hit a double to the wall in right center. They added a run on a throwing error in the eighth and two on a Miller bloop the landed on the left field foul line.
