Women’s Soccer Falls in Season Opener to Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Auburn University at Montgomery Women's Soccer opened the season with stiff competition on the road and suffered a 5-0 loss to the No. 21 Florida Tech Panthers Friday night at Rick Stotter Field.
 
Karla Guzman-Ortiz had a career high 15 saves in goal to start the season. The 15 saves tied an AUM (0-1)  program record originally set by Emma Gustavsson in 2002 and matched by Emma Guyton in 2021 and Rebecca Jamieson in 2022.
 
Katie Ormerod scored first for the defending Sunshine State Conference Champion Panthers (1-0) in the 11th minute on an assist from Sara Batchadji.
 
Lauyn Wood scored back-to-back goals with an assist from Rio Naganawa in the 21st and a helper from Alice Mottershead in the 46th minute to go up 3-0.
 
In the 57th minute, Savannah Oxley scored her first goal of the season with help from Ada Geier and Alice Mottershead.
 
Batchadji scored in the 60th minute to bring the score to the 5-0 final score.
  
AUM returns to action Monday at 11 a.m. against Edward Waters University in Jacksonville, Florida.
