AUM Pushes Mississippi College to Overtime in Tight Road Loss

MONTGOMERY, Ala.The Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team (2–19; GSC: 2–13) was edged in overtime by Mississippi College (8–11; GSC: 7–7), 82–80, on Saturday afternoon at the A.E. Wood Coliseum in Clinton, Mississippi. 
 
First Quarter 
The Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team came out hot in the opening quarter, outscoring the Mississippi College Choctaws 19–10. The game opened with Andie Flatgard knocking down a free throw after a Mississippi College foul, before Samya Brooks converted a layup and completed the three-point play at the line. Nevaeh Small added to the early momentum with a bucket of her own. Tamora Brown scored her first points of the afternoon on a jumper, and Brooks answered with another basket to extend the Warhawks' lead to 15–6. Ameyah Gray added a free throw. Flatgard capped the quarter with a three-pointer, her 25th of the season, as AUM took a 19–10 advantage into the second quarter. 
 
Second Quarter 
Shelby McAllister opened the period by knocking down a three-pointer before Brooks continued her strong start with a layup for her ninth point of the game. Jaden Toney added a spark, draining her sixth three-pointer of the season off an assist from McAllister, her third assist of the game. The Lady Choctaws responded with a run of their own, evening the score at 27–27 before briefly taking a 30–27 advantage. AUM closed the half on a strong note as Brown found Brooks for a bucket, cutting the deficit to one. The Warhawks headed into halftime trailing 30–29. 
 
Third Quarter 
Brooks poured in seven points early in the third quarter to keep AUM within reach. Toccara Stagnaro added a point at the free-throw line, while Keziah Seay scored her first points of the game with a layup. Flatgard kept the offense moving with a jumper before delivering a half-court pass to Brooks for a layup, trimming the deficit late in the period. AUM continued to chip away, entering the final quarter trailing Mississippi College, 55–51. 
 
Fourth Quarter 
AUM opened the final quarter with a spark from Gray, who scored four quick points to jumpstart the Warhawks offense. Brooks followed with a layup for her 25th point of the game, marking a career-high performance. Brooks stayed hot, pulling down a rebound and converting to knot the game at 59–59 with just over eight minutes to go. 
 
Flatgard then drained a three-pointer to give the Warhawks a 62–61 advantage before answering again from beyond the arc moments later, tying the contest at 65–65. Brown went a perfect 2-for-2 at the free-throw line to put AUM back in front, 69–67, and Brooks added a free throw to extend the lead to 70–67. Mississippi College responded with a layup and a trip to the line, converting one free throw to even the score at 70–70 and force overtime. 
 
Overtime 
Overtime opened with Brooks and Small each scoring two, keeping the game locked at 74–74. Gray knocked down two free throws to give the Warhawks a brief edge, but Brooks later fouled out as the physical overtime period continued. Brown stepped to the line and converted one free throw, with AUM trailing 77–78. Mississippi College capitalized at the free-throw line, knocking down two shots to extend the lead to 80–77 before adding another free throw to make it 81–77.

Flatgard answered, drilling a quick three-pointer to pull the Warhawks within one at 81–80. 
The Lady Choctawks split its final trip to the line, and AUM's comeback attempt fell just short as the game ended 82–80. 
 
Notables 
Samya Brooks poured in a career-high 30 points, shooting 12-of-21 from the field, while adding four rebounds, two assists, and three steals. 
 
Nevaeh Small had a game-high 17 rebounds, finishing with seven points, two assists, two steals, and two blocks.  
 
Andie Flatgard set season highs with 17 points, 41 minutes played, 6 rebounds, and 6 field goals made. She also extended her streak to nine consecutive games with a three point basket.  
 
Tamora Brown delivered eight points, nine rebounds, six assists, and three steals. 
 
Ameyah Gray provided nine points, shooting 3-of-6 from the field and 3-of-4 at the line, along with two steals. 
 
The Warhawks outrebounded Mississippi College 49–36, including 18 offensive boards, and scored 40 points in the paint. 
 
AUM recorded 11 steals and forced 17 turnovers. 
 
There were 13 lead changes in the game. 
 
The Warhawks led for 22:43 of game time and battled through eight ties. 
 
AUM's bench contributed 23 points.
