MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks men's basketball team (3-10, GSC: 1-6) fell to the Montevallo Falcons (9-4, GSC: 5-2) 89-62 on Sunday evening.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
The Warhawks started the game strong with the first six points of the game, led by four from
Elhadji Thiam. Three consecutive three-point baskets by Montevallo's Brandon Fussell gave Montevallo a 9-6 lead.
Â
AUM was able to add a few more points, but the Falcons' Fussell continued to hit his deep shot attempts, extending their lead to 15-9. Thiam didn't let this slow him down as he continued fighting in the paint to keep the score close.
Â
The home squad went on a 17-point run part way through the first half, giving them a 32-13 advantage. Thiam was the one to break the streak as he drilled one of his rare three-point attempts.
Â
Some back-and-forth closed out the first half with Montevallo in front 53-36.
Â
Second Half
Despite
Colby Williams' triple early in the second half, the Falcons took nine of the first 12 points to bring their advantage to 62-39.
Â
The Falcons continued to surge ahead, taking their largest lead of the game just after the 10-minute mark at 76-45.
Â
Despite AUM's late efforts, Montevallo would go on to secure the win 89-62.
