MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks softball team (10-0) remains the nation's No. 1, holding the top spot in the Week 2 edition of the 2026 NFCA/GoRout Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll released Tuesday morning. After earning the highest ranking in program history last week, the Warhawks continue to set the standard at the Division II level as they remain unbeaten to open the season.
BUILDING ON MOMENTUM
The Warhawks extended their unbeaten start to 10-0 with four more victories over the past week.
At the Panther Invitational, AUM picked up wins over Florida Tech (7-2) and Embry-Riddle (1-0).
Reese Cauley tossed a complete game with eight strikeouts in the opener while adding a three-run home run at the plate. In game two,
Karris Rhine delivered a first-inning solo shot that proved to be the difference, and
Chelisa Newsome followed with a two-hit shutout and nine strikeouts. The Warhawks also showcased their aggressive base running, swiping a season-high 10 stolen bases in the win over Florida Tech.
AUM carried that momentum into a road trip to Rollins, grinding out a pair of one-run victories (4-3 in eight innings; 3-2). The Warhawks showed resilience in high-pressure moments, rallying to tie game one before Cauley struck out three straight batters with the bases loaded in the eighth to secure the win. In game two,
Chloe Hollon's two-run homer highlighted a three-run fourth inning, while Newsome closed the door with another complete-game effort.
Through 10 games, AUM has combined clutch pitching, timely power, and disciplined situational hitting, reinforcing its hold on the No. 1 ranking while continuing to find ways to win tight contests.
STAYING THE STANDARD
Sitting at No. 1 brings increased attention and a heightened level of competition each time the Warhawks take the field, and AUM has embraced that challenge. Through 10 games, the orange and black have shown they can win in a variety of ways, whether it is run-rule victories powered by explosive offense or tightly contested one-run battles that require poise in late innings.
The Warhawks have demonstrated composure with their backs against the wall, relying on disciplined at-bats, aggressive base running, and clutch pitching in key moments. That consistency has allowed AUM to respond when momentum shifts and maintain control in high-pressure situations.
As the season continues, the focus remains on preparation and daily improvement. Maintaining the nation's top ranking will require the same competitive edge and attention to detail that carried AUM to the top, and the Warhawks have continued to meet that standard.
UP NEXT
The Warhawks will open Gulf South Conference play and their home schedule this weekend against the University of West Alabama, looking to extend their unbeaten start and defend their No. 1 national ranking in front of the home crowd.
