MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Junior pitcher Chelisa Newsome of the Auburn University at Montgomery softball team has been named Warhawk of the Week, as announced by the AUM Athletics Department, Wednesday morning.
Newsome's Week
Chelisa Newsome delivered a dominant week in the circle, helping AUM maintain its perfect start while holding the No. 1 ranking in the Week 2 edition of the NFCA/GoRout Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, the highest ranking in program history. Newsome earned two wins during AUM's road trip through Florida. On Friday in Melbourne, she tossed a stellar seven-inning shutout against Embry-Riddle, allowing just two hits while striking out a season-high nine batters in a 1–0 win.
She followed that performance with another complete game on Saturday in Winter Park, pitching all seven innings against Rollins College to secure a 3–2 victory, striking out four. Across the two games, Newsome logged 14.0 innings, posted a 2–0 record, allowed just two earned runs, and struck out 13 batters, anchoring the Warhawks' pitching staff as the team improved to 10–0 on the season.

Chelisa Newsome has been a steady and reliable presence in the circle for the Warhawks. Through five appearances, Newsome owns a 3–0 record with a 1.75 ERA, logging 24.0 innings pitched while allowing just six earned runs. She has limited hitters to 21 hits and recorded 25 strikeouts, highlighted by a season-high nine strikeouts against Embry-Riddle.
Newsome has already notched two complete games, including a shutout, and issuing just six walks on the year. Defensively, she has also contributed in the field with a .857 fielding percentage.
Her consistency and efficiency have played a key role in anchoring the Warhawks' pitching staff during the early part of the season.
