Warhawks Outpaced by Chargers in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks men's basketball team (5-20, GSC: 3-16) fell to the University of Alabama in Huntsville Chargers (19-7, GSC: 14-6) on Thursday night with a final score of 97-71.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
Jamir Williams opened the game with two consecutive three-point daggers, welcoming the Warhawks to Huntsville with a six-point lead. A three from the Chargers answered, however, Devin Barksdale drew a shooting foul outside of the arc and sank all three of his free throws.

UAH stole the lead after scoring 10 unanswered points powered by a trio of three-point buckets. Marius Canery ended the Chargers' streak with a jumper, but not without the home team taking the lead.

Not long after, points from Elhadji Thiam, Omar Zeigler, and Barksdale tied the score at 21 points apiece.

The tie didn't hold long with UAH scoring 14 straight points to hold a 35-22 advantage.

Neither side added any points over the next three minutes. Thiam made a layup and Jamarious Martin followed with a three, however, Alabama Huntsville would pocket a 43-29 lead at the halftime break.

Second Half
UAH continued to build on its lead early in the second half extending its cushion to 18 points.

The Warhawks began to edge back with jumpers from Zeigler and Thiam when Barksdale's hot hand landed three deep shots to cut the score to 54-44 at the under 16-minute media timeout.

The orange and black continued to fight throughout the remainder of the second half, including buckets from Thiam, Martin, Williams, and a few more threes from Barksdale, however, the Chargers were able to end the battle with a 97-71 win on their home court.
