MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team fell to GSC-leading Valdosta State, 81–56, in a conference matchup on Wednesday evening at the AUM Athletics Complex. Andie Flatgard recorded season highs with 22 points and six three-pointers in the contest.
First Quarter
Valdosta State jumped out to a 5–0 lead to open the contest before Andie Flatgard put the Warhawks on the board with a jumper. Tamora Brown followed with a layup and converted both free throws after drawing the foul to trim the deficit. Samya Brooks added the next four points for AUM, continuing to lead the offensive effort. The Warhawks trailed 20–10 at the end of the first quarter.
Second Quarter
Brooks opened the scoring in the second quarter with a jumper off an assist from Flatgard. The next three points came at the free-throw line, with Brown knocking down one and Ameyah Gray adding two more. Flatgard connected on her first three-pointer of the game off a Brown assist to keep the Warhawks within striking distance. After Valdosta State extended its lead, Flatgard knocked down another three, again assisted by Brown, marking her fifth consecutive game with a made three-pointer. Brown converted two of three free throws late in the quarter to close out the half, as AUM trailed 41–23 at the break.
Third Quarter
Brooks opened the second half with a basket before Jaden Toney added her first points of the night with a jumper. Shelby McAlister followed with a free throw, and Paige Taylor converted a layup off a McAlister assist to keep the offense moving. McAlister added a layup of her own after securing an offensive rebound, and Gray went 2-for-2 at the line to cap the Warhawks' scoring in the quarter. Keziah Seay got on the board with a free throw and the Flatgard made a two point basket. AUM trailed 61–37 heading into the final ten minutes.
Fourth Quarter
Toney opened the final period with a basket before coming up with a steal and finding Flatgard for a three-pointer. Flatgard stayed hot from beyond the arc, knocking down another three on the next possession. After Taylor secured a defensive rebound, Nevaeh Small capitalized with a jumper inside. Flatgard then connected on back-to-back three-pointers, the second coming off Toney's fourth assist of the night. Toney later went 3-for-3 at the free-throw line to round out the scoring for AUM. The Warhawks fell to the Blazers, 81–56.
Notables
Andie Flatgard led the Warhawks with a season high of 22 points and six three-pointers on 6-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc while playing all 40 minutes. Flatgard has scored at least one three pointer in 17 games this season.
Samya Brooks added eight points, while Tamora Brown finished with seven points, four rebounds, and three steals.
Jaden Toney recorded seven points and a team-high four assists, shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line.
Shelby McAlister pulled down five rebounds, including three offensive boards.
AUM shot 37.5 percent (6-of-16) from three-point range and 77.8 percent (14-of-18) from the free-throw line.
The Warhawks also outscored Valdosta State in fastbreak points, 14–10.
The orange and black finished with 16 points in the paint and added 16 points from the bench in the contest.
