DAHLONEGA, Ga. - Behind a two-homer performance from Luke Turner, the Auburn University at Montgomery baseball team (6-16; GSC: 2-10) battled North Georgia (19-5) in a midweek matchup Tuesday afternoon at the Bob Stein Stadium, ultimately falling 12–5 in non-conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings before the North Georgia Nighthawks broke through in the bottom of the third, using three hits to plate a pair of runs and take an early 2–0 lead.
The Warhawks responded in the fourth inning. Cannon Miller opened the frame with a single to left field, and Luke Turner followed with a two-run home run to left field, knotting the game at 2–2, his second home run of the season.
After a scoreless fifth inning, AUM took its first lead in the top of the sixth. Turner singled and moved into scoring position, before Tucker Burns added a base hit to keep the inning going. The right fielder, Landon Baeder hit a ground ball, allowing Turner to cross the plate and give the Warhawks a 3–2 advantage.
North Georgia answered in the bottom half of the inning, putting together a five-run frame. A two-run home run from the first baseman Schley Gordy helped the Nighthawks regain the lead before a series of hits and an AUM error allowed them to extend the lead to 7–3.
The Nighthawks continued to build momentum in the seventh inning, stringing together multiple hits to score five more runs and stretch their lead to 12–3.
AUM mounted a late push in the eighth inning as Turner led off the frame with his second home run of the afternoon, and Burns followed with a solo shot of his own, cutting the deficit to 12–5. The Warhawks were unable to bring across additional runs the rest of the way as North Georgia closed out the midweek contest.
