Sneed Delivers in Extras as No. 6 Warhawks Slip Past Cougars, 1-0

COLUMBUS, Ga. – After seven scoreless innings, the No. 6 Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks softball team (23-4) secured a 1-0 extra-inning victory over the Columbus State Cougars (15-9) behind clutch pitching and Jasmine Sneed's RBI base hit, which accounted for the game's only run.

COACH WILKES LANEY'S COMMENTS
"Today was a good mid-week win with great competition. Although we faced some adversity, we continued to fight. We fought for each other today, and that makes me proud."

HOW IT HAPPENED
With Reese Cauley starting in the circle for the Warhawks, she set the tone early, tallying three strikeouts and allowing just one hit through the first two innings while keeping the opponents off the board.

Kennedy Sevcik recorded the first hit of the day for the Orange and Black with a strong double to center field; however, the Warhawks were unable to capitalize due to a Cougar double play.

Neither team was able to score throughout the remainder of regulation, despite a handful of hits from both sides and 12 runners left on base for the Cougars.

Columbus State held the Warhawks scoreless in the top of the seventh inning with another double play, but AUM's defense stood strong in the bottom of the frame to force extra innings.

Karris Rhine led off extra-inning play with a single up the middle before stealing second on the next at-bat. This set up Jasmine Sneed's two-out RBI single to center field, bringing Rhine in to score and giving the Warhawks the first run of the day.

The home team, looking to stay alive in the bottom of the eighth inning, opened the frame with a single up the middle. CSU moved a runner into scoring position, but a Cauley strikeout and a pair of groundouts ended the contest with the Warhawks in front, 1-0.
