MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Sophomore
Jami Savolainen of the No. 29 Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks men's tennis team has been named Warhawk of the Week, as announced by the AUM Athletics Department on Thursday afternoon.
A WEEK TO REMEMBER
Savolainen turned in one of his best performances of the season, going a perfect 3-0 in singles play. He opened the week with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 comeback victory over No. 31 West Alabama's Jacob Tapia before earning back-to-back tiebreak wins over Delta State's Valentin Greco, 7-6 (11-4), 7-6 (11-5). He closed the week with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over No. 17 Mississippi College's No. 34 Matias Ruiz to help secure AUM's 4-3 victory.
In doubles play, Savolainen went 2-1 at the top position alongside teammate
Giuseppe Bonaiuti. The duo opened with a 6-3 victory over No. 31 West Alabama's Gabriel Garay and Sebastiao Vilas, followed by a 7-6 (8-6) tiebreak win against Delta State's Valentino Millimaci and Valentin Greco. They fell 6-3 to the No. 9 tandem of Mattia Ricci and Matias Ruiz from No. 17 Mississippi College.
SAVOLAINEN'S SEASON
So far this season, Savolainen has compiled a team-leading 6-6 singles record, all at the No. 2 position. Against Gulf South Conference opponents, he has been perfect at 4-0, including wins over some of the league's top talent. In doubles, Savolainen leads the Warhawks with a 9-4 record at the top spot, posting a 3-1 mark against GSC competition and further proving his skill on the court.

Savolainen and the Warhawks are back in action on Friday, March 27 for a road battle against No. 50 Valdosta State in Valdosta, Georgia. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
