MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference (GSC) announced its Golfer of the Week award on Thursday afternoon, with Auburn University at Montgomery's Ashley Nelson earning the honor following an outstanding performance at the Lady Bearcat Invitational earlier this week.
 
In AUM's inaugural women's golf season, Nelson becomes the first Warhawk to earn a Gulf South Conference weekly award, marking a historic milestone for the program.
 
A NOTEWORTHY WEEK
Nelson turned in a strong three-round performance at the Lady Bearcat Invitational, opening the tournament with a 75 (+3) that featured four birdies. She followed with back-to-back rounds of 76 (+4), adding two birdies in each round to close out the event. In total, the junior carded a 227 (+11) with eight birdies across the tournament, finishing 10th individually while showcasing her consistency and scoring ability throughout the week.
 
NELSON'S NUMBERS
Through three tournaments this spring, Nelson has recorded two top-10 finishes, along with a tie for 11th at the LR/Dunes West Women's Intercollegiate. Earlier this month, she posted a career-best three-round score of 221 (+5), earning a runner-up finish individually at the Tiger Spring Invitational.
 
The junior looks to carry her momentum into the team's final regular-season tournament before the start of postseason competition.
 
 
 
UP NEXT
Nelson and the Warhawks return to action on Monday, March 30, when they will play the first two rounds of the Lady Cougar Classic, hosted by Columbus State at Green Island Country Club in Columbus, Georgia.
