Warhawks Down Blazers in Nationally Ranked GSC Battle on the Road

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 29 Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks men's tennis team (7-8, GSC: 4-1) took down a GSC conference foe, the No. 50 Valdosta State Blazers (4-6, GSC: 2-2) 5-2 in a nationally ranked battle in Valdosta, Georgia on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles
Jami Savolainen and Giuseppe Bonaiuti were the first off the doubles court after defeating Valdosta's Philipp Bosse and Pietro Casciola 6-2 at the top spot.

The Blazers countered with a 6-3 win at the No. 3 position bringing it down to Guillermo Vedia Sanchez's and Daniel Margoulis's battle at the No. 2 spot against the Blazer's Emile Delporte and Wilson Igbinovia. The Warhawk's tandem was able to grab a tight, 7-6 (7-2) tiebreak victory to start AUM off with the first point.

Singles
Lucas Rosvall grabbed the first singles win after VSU's Pietro Casciola was forced to retire. The home team got on the board with a singles win at the top slot; however, Augustin Wallaert took down Valdosta's Yohann Meunier at the No. 5 position to put the Warhawks in front 3-1.

Savolainen, who earned the title of GSC player of the week on Wednesday, earned the Warhawks the match winning point with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 comeback victory over the Blazer's Igbinovia at the No. 2 slot.

Harry McDonagh rounded out AUM's scoring with a 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 4 position over VSU's Emile Delporte.

The Blazer's went on to take the final singles point at the No. 3 spot, but that wouldn't stop the Warhawks from earning a 5-2 conference victory over the Blazers on the road.
