MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks baseball team (8-25, GSC: 4-17) dropped an 11-1 seven-inning game to the West Florida Argos (26-6, GSC: 16-5) before falling in a tight 4-3 seven-inning battle in the series finale on Saturday evening from the AUM Baseball Complex.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One; AUM 1; UWF 11 (7 Inn.)
The West Florida Argonauts struck in the opening inning as center fielder Zack Stokes doubled to center before William Lybrook drove in the game's first run with an RBI single through the left side, putting UWF up 1-0.Â
West Florida extended its lead in the third, capitalizing on a pair of hit batters as Trent Kelly delivered an RBI double down the left field line and the Argonauts were able to extend their lead to 4-0 throughout the top of the frame.Â
UWF added to its advantage in the fourth behind a solo home run from outfielder Peyton Martin, followed by an RBI double from Gustavo Mendez to make it 6-0.
The Warhawks responded in the bottom half, as
Luke Turner doubled down the left field line and later came around to score on a double play ball off the bat of
Landon Baeder, trimming the deficit to 6-1.
In the top of the fifth, the Argonauts plated four runs on four hits. Martin delivered a two-RBI double, while two Argonauts each drove in runs to extend the lead to 10-1. West Florida added its final run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Kelly, bringing the score to 11-1. The Warhawks were unable to generate any late offense as the Argonauts closed out the 7-inning game with an 11-1 victory.Â

Â
Game Two; AUM 3; UWF 4 (7 Inn.)
Â
Using its momentum from game one, the Argos' Zack Stokes opened game two with a leadoff homer over the left field wall.
Â
The Warhawks responded in the bottom of the second inning behind
Cannon Miller's strong double to left center field. With two outs on the board,
Brice Ainsworth stepped up to the plate and roped an RBI single to left field, bringing Miller in to score. As the next batter,
Kyle Hipp drove an RBI single through the left side, completing Ainsworth's trip around the diamond and putting the orange and black ahead, 2-1.
Â
West Florida tied up the score at two runs apiece after adding one run in the top of the third frame. A fifth inning RBI triple from UWF's Trent Kelly gave the lead back to the visiting team.
Â
Late in the bottom of the sixth inning, Ainsworth knocked an RBI single to the left side of the infield, giving
Tucker Burns a chance to race home for the game-tying run. Unfortunately for the Warhawks, a pickoff at first base would end the frame with the bases full.
Â
The Argos took the go ahead run in the top of the seventh inning to take a late 4-3 lead.
Â
With this being game three of the GSC series, only seven innings were scheduled. Trailing by one with the game on the line, Hipp drilled a double to left field as the leadoff batter. Despite the Warhawks' late efforts, West Florida was able to handle the next three batters and earn a 4-3 win in game three.
