BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Freshman Nagisa Yonezawa of the Auburn University at Montgomery women's tennis team was named the Gulf South Conference (GSC) Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office Wednesday morning. This marks her second time earning the honor this season.
Yonezawa played a key role for the Warhawks in their matchup against No. 29 Lee, contributing in both singles and doubles action.
At the No. 4 singles position, she delivered a strong three-set comeback victory over Vitoria Maximiliano, 3-6, 6-0, 6-1, showcasing resilience after dropping the opening set.
In doubles play, Yonezawa teamed with Melissa Yakup Pour at the No. 1 position, where the No. 21-ranked duo secured the doubles point for AUM. The pair earned a statement win over Lee's No. 50-ranked team of Rima Yoshida and Andrea Pascual, battling through a tight match to win 7-6 (16-14), and helping AUM secure an early doubles point.

Yonezawa and the AUM women's tennis team will be back for Senior Day on Friday, April 17 against the Montevallo Falcons for the final match of the season with the match scheduled to start at 1 pm.
