MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Senior tennis player Giuseppe Bonaiuti of the Auburn University at Montgomery men's tennis team has been named Warhawk of the Week, as announced by the AUM Athletics Department, Wednesday morning.
Bonaiuti's Week
Giuseppe Bonaiuti turned in an outstanding performance at the GSC Tennis Championships, leading the No. 4 seeded Warhawks in their matchup against No. 5 Mississippi College.
In doubles, he teamed with Jami Savolainen at the No. 1 position. The duo set the tone early, earning a commanding 6-2 win over Mississippi College's Mikayel Avanesyan and Joshua Hinton.
He carried that momentum into singles, as the No. 75-ranked Bonaiuti delivered one of the Warhawks' strongest performances of the match, earning a decisive 6-3, 6-1 victory over No. 52 Mattia Ricci at the No. 1 position.
Capping off an already impressive week, Bonaiuti was honored off the court as well, earning both Student-Athlete of the Year and Male Athlete of the Year at the 2026 Warhawk Choice Awards.
Season Shapshot
Throughout the 2026 season, Giuseppe Bonaiuti anchored the Warhawks at the No. 1 position in both singles and doubles, consistently facing the top competition in the region and nation. Bonaiuti was ranked as high as No. 54 nationally during the season and closed the year at No. 75.
In singles play, Bonaiuti compiled multiple key victories, including wins over ranked singles opponenets, including No. 64 Mattia Ricci (MC) during the regular season. Battling at the No 1 spot, he went against a slate of nationally ranked opponents, including players from No. 1 West Florida, No. 9 Embry-Riddle, No. 12 Lee, No. 17 Mississippi College, and No. 50 Valdosta State.
For doubles, Bonaiuti primarily partnered with Jami Savolainen at the No. 1 position, forming a reliable duo at the top of the lineup. The pair earned numerous key wins, including victories over Midwestern State's No. 11-ranked duo, Delta State, Valdosta State, Lee, West Alabama, and Mississippi College, and West Florida.
Bonaiuti's consistency, leadership, and ability to compete at the highest level played a crucial role in the Warhawks' success throughout the 2026 campaign.
