BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Freshman Mercedes Garcia Cid of the Auburn University at Montgomery women's tennis team was named the Gulf South Conference (GSC) Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office Wednesday morning. It marks Garcia Cid's fourth time earning the honor this season.
Garcia Cid competed against one of the top teams in the nation this past week, facing No. 2 West Florida on the road. At the No. 2 singles position, she battled No. 33 Sandra Recuenco Tarin in a competitive matchup, ultimately falling 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles play, Garcia Cid teamed up with Allison Blanco at the No. 2 position, taking on Guadalupe Martinez and Aline Midori Da Silva. The duo fell 6-2 against the strong West Florida pairing.
Garcia Cid continues to be a key contributor near the top of the Warhawks' lineup, consistently facing high-level competition and gaining valuable experience against nationally ranked opponents.
