Ashley Nelson Named WGCA All-American Scholar

FRISCO, Texas - Auburn University at Montgomery women's golfer Ashley Nelson has been named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team, as announced Monday afternoon.

Nelson, a junior kinesiology major from Lake City, Florida, maintained a perfect 4.00 GPA while emerging as one of the Warhawks' top performers during the inaugural women's golf season.

She earned four top-10 finishes, including three top-five performances, highlighted by a runner-up finish at the Tiger Spring Invitational after carding a three-round score of 221 (+5).

Earlier in the season, Nelson tied for third at the Newberry Invitational and tied for fifth at the Converse Fall Invitational before recording a 10th-place finish at the Lady Bearcat Invitational. She closed the campaign with a tie for 13th at the Gulf South Conference Championship.

Nelson also made program history by becoming the first Warhawk to earn Gulf South Conference Golfer of the Week honors following her performance at the Lady Bearcat Invitational. She was additionally named to the CSC Academic All-District Team and the Gulf South Conference All-Academic Team.

The WGCA All-American Scholar Team recognizes student-athletes for excellence both on the course and in the classroom. The honor features some of the most stringent academic criteria in collegiate athletics, requiring student-athletes to maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50, remain on their team's roster through the conclusion of the season, and compete in at least 50 percent of the team's regularly scheduled rounds through the conference championship.
