Valerie Armstrong enters her second season as assistant coach for the Auburn University at Montgomery volleyball program.

During the 2022 season, Armstrong helped see the Warhawks to the program's fourth consecutive appearance in GSC postseason play with a 17-18 record. The Warhawks entered the tournament as the No. 7 seed and advanced to the GSC Semifinals after knocking out the No. 6 seed Valdosta State and No. 3 seed Mississippi College. Ylenia De Mango earned a spot on the All-GSC Team and All-GSC Tournament Team. AUM swept the inaugural Warhawk Invitational.

Armstrong came to AUM after serving a four-year stint as the head volleyball coach at Midwestern State University, an NCAA DII program in Wichita Falls, Texas. She led the Mustangs to two Lone Star Conference tournaments and added six all-LSC honorees.

"I am excited to become a part of AUM Volleyball and AUM Athletics," said Armstrong. "I would like to thank Flavia for giving me the opportunity to come to AUM and continue to help her build the program. Being around the program feels like a great fit, and I am excited to hit the ground running and see where we go."

"I am beyond excited to have Armstrong join our volleyball staff," said head coach Siqueira. "She is a very passionate and dedicated professional who will contribute to the development of our student-athletes on and off the court. Valerie's experience and qualifications align well with our program's philosophy, and I appreciate the opportunity to work with her again."

Prior to Midwestern State, Armstrong completed a four-year tenure at Binghamton University in Binghamton, New York. While with the Bearcats, Armstrong aided the program to two Rookie of The Year awards, four conference tournament appearances, four first-team all-AEC players, and three AVCA Academic Team awards.

Armstrong is not new to the Montgomery area, as she spent a season with the Alabama State Hornets in 2013. ASU saw great success that year, as they were East Division SWAC champions after an undefeated 8-0 mark in conference action. She also helped aid the Hornets to their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance that season.

Her coaching career began in Vernon, Texas, and Vernon College, where she spent four years with the Chaps. She coached 16 all-conference athletes, including six all-region, eight academic all-conference, and four academic all-Americans.
