AUM to Honor Legendary Head Coach Larry Chapman Saturday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. ---- The Auburn Montgomery department of athletics will honor legendary men's basketball coach Larry Chapman for his service to the University between games of its Senior Day doubleheader against local rival Faulkner Saturday. Chapman announced his retirement following the 2013-14 season back in November.



Currently in his 37th season at the helm of the men's basketball program and 50th season as a head coach, Chapman is third among active NAIA coaches in four-year coaching victories, having earned 713 career wins. Only the second coach in AUM men's basketball history, Chapman has collected 678 of those victories for the Warhawks.

Additionally, Chapman has led AUM to 11 NAIA National Tournaments and 15 20-win seasons. He guided the Warhawks to the 1987-88 NAIA National Championship Game and was selected NAIA Coach of the Year following the season. AUM finished the season with a 32-3 record.

Chapman has coached numerous all-conference performers and 17 NAIA All-Americans. Two former players have gone on to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA). 

Saturday's contest will also mark the final home game for four AUM student-athletes.The women's team will recognize the contributions of Katie Williams and Psachal Maize, while the men will honor LaRel Jackson and Brett Person.

Tomorrow's women's contest is slated to begin at 2 p.m., with the men's game to follow at approximately 4 p.m.
