AUM Men’s Basketball Welcomes Jack Kostel as Assistant Coach

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Auburn University at Montgomery head men's basketball coach Anthony Komara has announced the addition of Jack Kostel to the program as an assistant coach.

"Jack Kostel is a perfect fit for what we are building here at AUM and will positively impact our program in so many ways," Komara said. "Having had the opportunity to recruit and coach him as a player, I've seen firsthand the work ethic, leadership, and competitiveness he brings every day. He has a tremendous feel for the game, connects extremely well with people, and most importantly, understands the standard and culture we want to build here. I'm beyond excited to welcome Jack to our program and am thankful for the opportunity to work with him daily."

Kostel arrives in Montgomery following a decorated collegiate career at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where he helped his teams capture five championships in five seasons while competing in postseason play every year.

"I am beyond excited and grateful for this opportunity," Kostel said. "I am looking forward to using my experience and knowledge I've gained throughout my career to help build and maintain the culture Coach Komara brings to his programs, and impact winning at a high level. Go Warhawks!"

Kostel most recently competed at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he helped the Mocs secure a conference championship and capture an NIT Championship. While at UTC, Kostel hit the milestone of 1,000 career points.

Prior to his time at UTC, Kostel spent four standout seasons at UAH, where he established himself as one of the Gulf South Conference's top guards while helping lead the Chargers to three conference championships and four consecutive NCAA Division II Tournament appearances.

His most successful campaign came during the 2023-24 season, when he earned All-Gulf South Conference Second Team honors in addition to being named to the Gulf South Conference All-Academic Team and GSC Academic Honor Roll. Starting all 33 games, he averaged 13.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game while leading the team in minutes played and steals.

Kostel helped guide UAH to a 21-11 overall record and a runner-up finish in the Gulf South Conference Tournament, earning the program's sixth-straight berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament.

During the 2022-23 season, Kostel helped lead the Chargers to a Gulf South Conference regular season championship and a trip to the NCAA Division II South Region title game. He started 35 games and averaged 7.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.9 steals per contest.

Across his four seasons with the Chargers, Kostel earned All-GSC recognition and Gulf South Conference Academic Honor Roll honors multiple times.

Komara and Kostel share a longstanding relationship that dates back to Kostel's high school recruiting process, when Komara, then an assistant coach at UAH, became the first collegiate coach to reach out to him. The pair spent two seasons together in Huntsville and won two championships during that time, building a relationship that now comes full circle at AUM.

Kostel earned his degree in Business Applied Leadership from University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
