MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Auburn Montgomery volleyball player
Carly Smart was named the third AUM Army ROTC Athletic Achievement Award winner of the fall semester, it was announced on Monday.
This award is presented to a student-athlete certified for eligibility and involved in a varsity sport that contributes to their team's success through their individual leadership skills, their commitment to teamwork, their extra effort during practice and their demonstration of sportsmanship. Additional contributing factors include academic success, character and exemplary community outreach, as well as athletics performance during the previous two weeks.
Smart, a junior from Columbus, Ga., has emerged as a leader for the volleyball team during its inaugural campaign, being picked as one of the team captains prior to the start of the season and serving as the Warhawks' setter on the court. Over the past two weeks, Smart has averaged 8.23 assists per set with 2.27 digs resulting in three double-double outings.
Outside of competition, Smart is one of the volleyball team's representatives on AUM's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is an active member of the BCM on campus. She also excels in the classroom, maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
The volleyball team concludes its inaugural season this weekend with a pair of road matches, taking on West Alabama on Friday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. followed by Christian Brothers on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m.
