MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- Auburn Montgomery sophomore infielder
Kaylin Finch has been named the softball team's Warhawk Hitter of the Month for April.
Â
The Montgomery, Ala. native recorded a team-best 14 hits for the month. Finch also scored five runs during the month with two doubles and a home run. Additionally, she totaled four RBIs with the highest slugging percentage at .613.
Â
"Kaylin had an excellent month of April at the plate for us," head coach
Eric Newell said. "Every time she stepped up to the plate, there was always a strong chance that something good would happen. She really added a lot of consistency to our lineup and was a hard out each appearance she made."
Â
Finch finished the year with a second-best .375 batting average, and was second on the team with 48 hits as well. She also was second in home runs with five, third in doubles with seven and added 20 RBIs. She aided in snapping the 23-game win streak West Florida had built up with a perfect 2-for-2 performance on a double and a home run with two RBIs and a run scored on April 11. She added six multi-hit games in the final month of the season, including a .500 (3-for-6) day against No. 17 UAH with an RBI and a run scored.Â
Â
Finch and the Warhawks finished the 2017 season 25-18 in their first year with a NCAA Division II schedule. AUM will become a competing member of the Gulf South Conference next season, and the Warhawks finished 12-2 against future GSC opponents.
