MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team played its inaugural home match on Friday afternoon, falling to the visiting University of Montevallo 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-15).

Brianna Garvin led the offense with nine kills on a .316 hitting percentage, followed by redshirt-freshman middle blocker

Carly Smart posted 28 assists with five digs and a service ace in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Montevallo pulled away from AUM in the opening set with a 4-0 run midway the frame, propelling the visitors to a 14-10 lead. The Warhawks brought the deficit back to one behind a 4-1 spree before an 8-1 response by the Falcons gave them the 23-15 edge.
• Coming off their first-set triumph, the Falcons opened up the second frame with the opening three points and led the entire stanza. With the fate of the set still undecided at 7-6, Montevallo fired off nine-consecutive points to take a 16-6 advantage.
• Despite hitting a match-best .222 in the final frame, AUM could not come back from an early 7-3 deficit to prevent the sweep. AUM kept the separation within range for the early phase of the frame before an 8-1 spree by the Falcons increased their lead to double digits at 19-9.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM finished the match 32 kills on a .160 hitting percentage versus 40 on a .375 clip for Montevallo.
• Montevallo held a slim 37-36 advantage in digs.
• Montevallo, who entered the contest ranked 17
th in Division II in service aces per set, boasted nine service aces while the Warhawks had two.
