Warhawk Tennis To Host GSC Foe Shorter In Dual Match

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery men's and women's tennis teams will host Gulf South Conference foe Shorter University on Wednesday afternoon at the AUM Tennis Complex in a dual match featuring both sets of teams beginning at 1 p.m.
 
About the Warhawks
Both teams are 1-1 on the season and are both coming off of a 4-3 setback to NCAA Division I member Jackson State on Monday afternoon. This will be the second home match of the season for both squads as both will look to remain undefeated at the AUM Tennis Complex this season. The men are currently ranked 20th in the Oracle/ITA Division II Men's Top 25 poll.
 
The men's last setback at home came against #9 West Florida on Feb. 9, 2017 while the women's was against #7 West Florida on the same day.
 
On the men's side Alvaro Terron has started both matches as the No. 1 singles competitor for AUM and is undefeated on the year. Terron's doubles partner Francisco Jimenez is also undefeated in No. 3 singles play, but the pair suffered their first loss of the season in doubles play to Jackson State on Monday.  
 
Eban Straker-Meads is the only Warhawk that is undefeated in both singles and double play competing at the No. 2 position in both.
 
Senior Alejandra Gil is 2-0 on the season as a No. 1 doubles and a No. 3 singles competitor, and is undefeated in her last 11 singles matches. Alba De la Torre and Julia Enderink are also undefeated in singles play, with De La Torre playing both the No. 4 and No. 5 spots and Enderink playing both matches at the No. 6 spot.
 
Gil is currently the only Warhawk returner for AUM, which boasts five freshmen on the squad.  
 
 About the Hawks
Shorter is 1-2 on the men's side and 2-1 on the women's, with Wednesday being the first conference match of the season for both squads. The Hawks' first GSC contest was supposed to be against Valdosta State on Feb. 7, but the dual match was postponed due to inclement weather.
 
Gregoire Vincent is the only undefeated Hawk on the men's side, holding a 3-0 record in No. 4 singles play while also touting a 3-0 record with different partners at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Jose Moreno-Manzano is 2-1 on the season in No. 1 singles while Talha Zubair is also 2-1 at No. 2 singles.
 
Aleksandra Durzynski is 3-0 at No. 1 singles for the women's squad and is 2-1 in doubles play. Teammte Anastasia Jovicic is the only other Hawk with a winning record on the season, and is 2-1 in both No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles action.

The Warhawks will begin the first of three matches away from the friendly confines of the AUM Tennis Complex when they travel to Livingston, Ala., to take on GSC opponent West Alabama in a dual match set for 11 a.m. on Friday morning. Last season the women defeated then #22 UWA 6-3 while the men earned a 9-0 victory over then #41 UWA.
