MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery softball was swept in a three games series by #10 West Florida on Saturday afternoon in Gulf South Conference play, as the high-powered Warhawk offense was held in check by the Argonauts who after winning Friday's game 5-0, took game two 3-0 and game three 6-0 in a doubleheader at the AUM Softball Complex.
NOTES
• AUM falls to 13-4 on the season with a 2-4 mark in league games.
• UWF improves to 16-1 overall and 6-0 in the GSC.
• The sweep by the Argos was the first time the Warhawks have been swept since March of last season when AUM dropped three in a row to Valdosta State.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Chanel Newcomer fell to 3-2 on the season in game one of the doubleheader, but did not give up an earned run over seven innings of work, striking out two.
• Freshman
Savanna Holmes entered game two in relief and allowed only one run on three hits over four innings of work with a pair of K's.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
• The Argonauts put a run on the board in the top of the first, scoring on a Teala Howard single with a runner at first followed by an error in the AUM infield to go up 1-0.
• AUM would load the bases in the bottom of the first with only one out, but the Warhawks could not break through for a run after a pop out and a strike out to end the frame.
• The Warhawks would get runners at first and second with only one out in the bottom of the sixth, but once again could not scratch a run off to head to the seventh trailing 1-0.
• The Argos got runners on second and third with two outs on the board, and would add two insurance runs on a Mika Garcia single to center put her squad up 3-0.
• AUM had runners at second and third with only one out in the bottom of the seventh.
Jaycie Walker would hit a single to center to advance both runners but
Michaelyn Foster would be thrown out at home trying to score from second. The Warhawks would not be able to score the rest of the way to fall 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – GAME ONE
• AUM was held scoreless on four hits with two errors.
• UWF scored three runs on six hits with no errors.
• Kelsey Sweatt picked up the win for UWF to improve to 5-0 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
• The Argos plated two runs in the top of the first, scoring when pitcher Tori Perkins singled with runners at second and third to take a 2-0 advantage.
• UWF scored another run in the third when Rhiannon Sassman grounded out to second to score a runner from third.
• Garcia would get two more RBI for the Argonauts, knocking a single to left-center with the bases loaded to put her team up 5-0 after four.
• The Argos would add another run in the seventh, scoring on a Howard single through the left side to put her squad up 6-0.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – GAME TWO
• AUM was held scoreless for the third game in a row while collecting only one hit.
• UWF scored six runs on nine hits with one error.
• Perkins improved to 6-0 on the season after taking a no-hitter into the sixth.
• AUM's
Kasidy Thompson broke up the no-no in the sixth with a base knock to left.
•
Natalie Johnsey was credited with the loss for AUM to fall to 1-1 on the season.
