MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Junior slugger
Jaycie Walker started her second game in a row with a solo home run followed by a two-run shot in the second inning to help pace the Auburn Montgomery softball team past region rival Spring Hill College on Saturday afternoon, as the Warhawks extended their win streak to eight games to start 2019.
NOTES
• AUM improves to 8-0 on the season.
• The Badgers fall to 3-8 overall.
•The Orange & Black have outscored opponents 74-5 over their first eight games.
• The last time the Warhawks won seven in a row to start the season came during the 2013 campaign, when the Orange & Black won 13 in a row to start the year.
• AUM have scored in the first inning in seven straight games.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Walker went 2-for-2 at the plate with three runs batted in and two runs scored. She also drew a walk.
•
Michaelyn Foster started the game at pitcher, continuing her no-hit inning streak reach 7.0 innings in a row. Foster moved to second base in the top of the third. Offensively she went 3-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored.
• Freshman
Savanna Holmes got her first career hit, doing it in style with a two-run home run to left.
• Senior pitcher
Natalie Johnsey was credited with the victory in relief, allowing one hit over two shutout innings and striking out two batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Walker belted in the first run of the contest for the Warhawks in the leadoff spot to put AUM up 1-0. Then with runners at second and third sophomore
Gracie Harris hit a single down the right field line to plate a pair of runs and give the Orange & Black a 3-0 lead.
• The Warhawks then posted six runs in the bottom of the second, highlighted by Holmes' two-run blast to left. Walker would then hit her second homer of the contest, this time a two-run shot for the slugger.
Olivia Aycock would scored on a SHC error and then
Morgan Duschell singled in another run to put the home squad up 9-0 after two complete.
• Foster picked up an RBI on a single up the middle and runners at first and second with two outs in the bottom of the fourth to push the Warhawk lead to 10-0.
• The Badgers could not get a rally started in the top of the fifth to avoid being run-ruled to drop their second game on the day.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
• AUM scored 10 runs on 13 hits with no errors.
• SHC was held scoreless on two hits while committing one error.
• Starter Olivia Brown fell to 0-2 on the year after allowing seven runs on six hits in 1.0 innings of work.
• The Warhawks stole five bases in the contest.
• The contest marked the third game in a row the Warhawks hit two home runs in a game.
