STANDOUT PERFORMERS

- Freshman

HOW IT HAPPENED
- AUM got on the board first in the contest, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second.
Parker Pinholster tripled to right with one out to set up
Caroline Burns, who delivered a single to left to drive in the game's first run. After Burns stole second, Holmes singled up the middle just past a diving UWG infielder to plate Burns and give the home team a 2-0 advantage. Harris then hit a triple to right-centerfield to score Holmes, putting her squad up 3-0 after two complete.
- UWG posted their first hit in the top of the fourth, but that runner was erased on a 6-4-3 double play the very next batter.
- After the Warhawks went 3-up-3-down in the bottom of the fourth, the Wolves tallied two singles in a row to start the fifth. Runners advanced to second and third on a wild pitch by Holmes, who proceeded to strike out the next two batters. After a walk loaded the bases, Hannah Scarbrough beat out a sharp throw to first to drive in the first run of the game for the visitors. Another wild pitch by Holmes with the bases still loaded cut the deficit to 3-2 for the Wolves, but Harris's catch in foul territory on a dead sprint ended the inning and preserved the Warhawk lead.
-
Jaycie Walker led off the bottom of the sixth with her team-leading 15th double of the season, and then was pinch-run for by flex player
Hannah Dailey.
Michaelyn Foster then reached base on an error by the UWG centerfielder which pushed Dailey to third.
Kendall Tucker then hit a sacrifice squeeze bunt to plate Dailey and put the Orange & Black up 4-2.
- That run would prove crucial when UWG's Madison Chambers hit a solo homer down the leftfield line with one out to cut the deficit to only one run, but Newcomer would strike out the next two batters to secure the victory for the home team.
