Softball Takes Two From Lee On Saturday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team swept a doubleheader from Gulf South Conference foe Lee University on Saturday afternoon to begin their final home stand of 2019, winning game one 6-3 before coming from behind to take game two 7-5 at the AUM Softball Complex.
 
NOTES
- AUM improves to 42-12 on the season with a 19-9 mark in the GSC.
- Lee falls to 22-30 overall and 10-18 in league play.
- The Warhawks are now 6-9 lifetime against the Flames.
- The 42 win on the year are the most for the Orange & Black since the 2016 season when they recorded a school record 53.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Freshman shortstop Olivia Aycock went 4-for-8 at the plate with three runs scored and three stolen bases.
- Senior pitcher Natalie Johnsey picked up her first two saves of the season, securing the victories in both game one and two. Johnsey allowed only one hit over 2.2 innings of work with no walks and two strikeouts.
- Freshman Savanna Holmes went 2-for-5 offensively with a big 3-RBI home run in game two that gave the Warhawks the lead for good in the contest. She also picked up the victory in game one in the circle to improve to 7-2 this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
- With runners at first and third in the bottom of the first Michaelyn Foster laid down a sacrifice bunt to plate Parker Pinholster from third and give the home squad a 1-0 advantage.
- After neither team was able to do much offensively over the next four innings the Warhawks exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth. AUM scored on a pair of errors by the visitors before a Jaycie Walker double to right added another run to the home team's tally. Another error allowed Walker to score and put Foster at first followed by a Morgan Duschell single to right that pushed Foster to third. Caroline Burns then hit a sac fly to center that plated Foster and put the Orange & Black up 6-0.
- The Flames would rally for two runs in the top of the sixth, scoring on an AUM error that allowed two runs to scored. Lee's Bailey Church then hit a solo homer to left in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to 6-3, but then Johnsey entered the contest and got a strike out and a fly out to end the threat.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – GAME ONE
- The Warhawks scored six runs on six hits with one error.
- The Flames tallied three runs on three hits with three errors.
- Holmes picked up the win to improve to 7-2 this season, tossing 3.1 shutout innings.
- Shonna Penney was credited with the loss for the Flames to fall to 10-16 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
- Game two saw the Flames go up 1-0 in the top of the first, scoring on an Abby McKinney sac fly to right that gave the visitors the lead.
- The Warhawks responded in the bottom half of the frame, scoring their first run on another Foster squeeze bunt that scored Aycock this time around. After one complete the scored was knotted at one run apiece.
- Lee took the lead in the top of the fourth, loading the bases for Claudia Jones who smoked a double to right to plate a pair of runners and give Stevie Baird runners at second and third with only one out. Baird then hit a sac fly to left to plate Zoe Miller and give the Flames a 4-1 lead.
- The visitors went up 5-1 in the top of the fifth, scoring on an AUM error which allowed two base runners to advance – to second and home, respectively.
- Aycock would lead off the fifth with a single up the middle and then advanced to second on a throwing error by Lee. After a fly out by the Warhawks Walker doubled down the leftfield line to score Aycock from second. Gracie Harris then pinch ran for Walker and was driven home with a double by Foster. Gracie Poe then hit a pinch hit double to left centerfield that plated Foster. After Burns reached base on an error and the Warhawks trailing 5-4, Holmes smashed a three-run bomb to centerfield to give her squad a 7-5 lead heading into the sixth.
- Johnsey would enter in the top of the sixth and face only six batters the rest of the way to secure the two-run victory for the Warhawks.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – GAME TWO
- AUM scored seven runs on seven hits with one error.
- Lee scored five runs on eight hits with three errors.
- Cydney Sizemore was credited with the win in relief to improve to 4-0 on the season. She allowed one run on one hit with a walk and a strikeout over one inning.
- Taylor De Adder took the loss to fall to 9-11 on the season.
