ABOUT THE WARHAWKS
AUM (6-10, 5-4 GSC) swept a Saturday, Feb. 29 doubleheader at GSC-foe Montevallo to claim the three-game series over the Falcons their last time out. The game-one win over the Falcons on Saturday, Feb. 29 marked for career victory number 250 for head coach
Marty Lovrich, while also accounting for win number 165 for Lovrich at the helm of the AUM baseball program.
Through 16 contests, the Warhawks are batting .296 as a team, good enough for third-best in the GSC.
Quinterrious Arrington leads the Warhawks and ranks sixth in the conference with a .400 batting average, while
Zach Feaster (.366),
Dalton Cobb (.362),
Matthew Zielonko (.338) and
Bailey Mosley (.324) all sport a plus-300 batting average among qualified Warhawk hitters.
Cobb's 18 runs batted in and Zielonko's 17 both rank them among the top-five RBI producers in the GSC, with Cobb accounting for a team-best five multi-RBI games and Zielonko logging four. The duo has a combined 35 of AUM's 86 RBI's, which translates to just over 40 percent.
Cobb additionally leads the GSC with 19 runs scored, while ranking third in the conference with five home runs and fourth with a .690 slugging percentage. The Anniston, Ala. native has hit safely in his last 14 games and collected a base hit in 15 of 16 games in 2020.
Arrington's three triples pace the Gulf South while his seven multi-hit games lead the Orange and Black. Zielonko has also notched seven multi-hit games, with a team-high two three-hit performances.
On the mound,
Micah Henderson and Jones have both amassed a team-high two wins on the season with Jones striking a team-best 28 batters in 31.1 innings of labor. Jones has additionally tossed a GSC-best three complete games.
Logan Coleman has logged a team-high nine appearances with a win and a save while holding opponents to a .271 batting average.
Sam Steigert has additionally recorded a win over seven appearances and 17.2 innings tossed for AUM.
The matchup at Delta State will be the Warhawk's first action against the Statesmen since the 2018 season, where AUM dropped all three contests in Cleveland, Miss. on March 3-4. Delta State holds a 4-0 advantage over the Warhawks in their brief history.
ABOUT THE STATESMEN
Delta States comes into their clash with AUM losers of five straight. The Statesmen dropped an 8-7 midweek contest at Southern Arkansas their last time out on Tuesday, March 3.
The Statesmen currently sit second in the conference with a .299 team batting average, led by Chad Ragland's .471 batting average that leads all qualified GSC players. Ragland's 33 base hits rank fourth in the nation.
Four different Statesmen have logged double-digit RBI, with Jake Barlow's 16 pacing DSU. Hayden White (13 RBI), Blake Wolferding (10 RBI) and Darek Sargent (10 RBI) all have also driven in at least 10 runs on the season.
The Statesmen pitching staff ranks second in the conference with 150 strikeouts heading into the weekend while posting a .221 opponents' batting average and an earned run average of 4.34.
Jackson Rutledge, Hunter Riggins, Cooper Brune and Tanner Propst all have notched a pair of wins for the Statesmen, with Propst also recording a pair of saves. Riggins and Cooper have both tallied a team-high 28 strikeouts, while Brune (.224), Riggins (.227) and Rutledge (.192) are all holding opposing hitters to a batting average under .230 on the season.
