BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Dalton Cobb, Alba De la Torre, Kendall Tucker, Jaycie Walker and Matthew Zielonko have been named to the Gulf South Conference All-Academic Teams, while 60 Warhawks garnered GSC Spring Academic Honor Roll honors. It was announced by the conference office on Wednesday (June 17).

The Warhawk's 60 honorees out of 68 eligible student-athletes marked for the 5th highest total among GSC schools, while leading the conference with 21 softball selections and finishing second with 25 baseball selections to the academic honor roll. Both the men's and women's tennis teams had all seven student-athletes named to the honor roll.

At the time of the cancelation of the 2020 season, Cobb had hit safely in his last 18 games. A Kinesiology major, Cobb boasts a 3.46 grade point average.

De la Torre (Madrid, Spain) posted a record of 4-2 out of the number-three singles flight for the women's tennis team in 2020, while posting a doubles record of 5-4 playing out of the number-two flight. De la Torre and double's partner Julia Enderink ranked no. 20 nationally in the final ITA Fall double's rankings in 2019. A Marketing major, De la Torre holds a 3.83 GPA.

Tucker (Opelika, Ala.) led all of the GSC and ranked third nationally with 34 runs batted in during 2020, while also ranking among the top in the league in slugging percentage (.786), home runs (6) and triples (2). An Elementary Education major, Tucker boasts a 3.79 GPA.

Zielonko additionally posted a .342 batting average, collected 26 base hits and slugged a team-high six doubles. Zielonko is currently pursuing his masters in Management Information Systems and holds a GPA of 3.83.

A total of 809 student-athletes were named to the 2019-20 GSC Spring Academic Honor Roll. The GSC Spring Academic Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes that participated in baseball, softball, men's golf, women's golf, women's lacrosse, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's track and field, and women's track and field, and maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher.

Academic All-GSC Teams are selected by the Gulf South Conference Sports Information Directors (SIDs) and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) in a joint vote. Nominees must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or better on a 4.00 scale for their entire academic career and may not be freshmen or first-semester or quarter transfers. The student-athlete must be a significant contributor to the squad. Other factors include leadership, community service and extra-curricular activities. SIDs and FARs are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. The number of student-athletes selected in each sport is determined by the number of positions normally involved in the playing of that sport. Ties are not broken.
