Warhawks Fall To Gamecocks In Exhibition Action

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team fell to NCAA DI and ASUN foe Jacksonville State 89-39 on Monday afternoon in their second of three exhibition contests to start the season.

After a 67-48 win over NCAA DIII foe Huntingdon College last week, the Warhawks fall to 1-1 in their exhibition games this season. With the contest being an official game for Jacksonville State, the Gamecocks start at 1-0.

Freshman Kailyn Farrell led the way offensively for the Warhawks, scoring a team-high seven points while adding two rebounds. Another newcomer, Raquel Sampson, led AUM in rebounding after grabbing five boards.

Farrell and the Warhawks got off to a good start against Jacksonville State in the first quarter.
The freshman from Tennessee had five of the Warhawks' first seven points of the contest that saw AUM leading 7-6 at the first media timeout. The Gamecocks, however, ended the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 15-7 lead after the first period of play.

Sampson broke the Warhawks' scoreless streak early in the first quarter with a layup for her first two points of the afternoon. A jumper from Catlin Carter and another pair of points from Sampson kept the Warhawks to within six points of JSU, but the Gamecocks offense kept cooking and provided a 42-21 lead at halftime.

Farrell, Jamya Tyus, and Tamia Willingham-King scored early in the second half for AUM, while the third quarter ended with a 3-pointer from Jordan Brewster and a free throw conversion from Demaurea Moore saw the Warhawks down 67-33. Jacksonville State had their way with the Warhawk defense in the fourth quarter, outscoring AUM 22-6 to take the game 89-39.

AUM will wrap up their exhibition contest with a meeting against NCAA DI South Alabama on Monday, November 15. The action from the Mitchell Center is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
