BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Troy Jones of the Auburn Montgomery baseball team has been named the Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 8-14. It was announced by the conference office on Tuesday (March 16).
Jones (Powder Spring, Ga.) becomes the program's first player to earn a weekly accolade from the GSC since becoming full-fledged members of NCAA Division II in 2019.
The senior hurler held no. 15 ranked West Florida in check with a complete-game shutout in the Warhawks' 3-0 victory over the Argos on Friday, March 12. Jones tallied a season-best seven strikeouts while giving up just six hits, a pair of walks, and stranding seven Argo base runners over nine innings.
The complete game marked for the fifth time in his Warhawk career that Jones has gone the distance in a game. Jones currently holds a 1-1 record, with a 4.09 ERA and 27 strikeouts over 33 innings pitched in 2021.
The AUM baseball team will be back in action on Friday, March 19 for game one of their three-game set at Alabama-Huntsville. First pitch from Huntsville, Ala. is set for 5:00 p.m.
