JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Phillip Spickenbaum scored the game-winning goal in the 71st minute of the match, Alexander Kraus made a diving, fingertip save in the 88th minute, and the Auburn University at Montgomery men's soccer team downed 11th-ranked Carson-Newman on the road on Tuesday afternoon.

Oluwatuyi scored the first goal of the contest to give AUM a 1-0 lead, and Spickenbaum was credited with the game-winning goal to put AUM ahead for good in the match.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Each side mustered four shots apiece in the opening 30 minutes of the contest, but neither team was able to find a tally on the scoresheet. 
• It was the visitors who struck first, as AUM forward Aristarchus Oluwatuyi converted a 38th-minute header to give the Warhawks a 1-0 lead.
• Arthur Borredon was credited with the assist on Oluwatuyi's goal on a corner kick.
• The first half ended with the Warhawks on top 1-0, as AUM led the shots category 7-6 in the opening half.
• Carson-Newman answered with a goal from Eric Schmutzer, assisted by Daniel McIlroy, in the 48th minute to draw the match even.
• The tie score held until the 71st minute when Phillip Spickenbaum put the Warhawks in front.
• Logan Roach sent a corner kick deep into the box and Spickenbaum was there to head it into the back of the net to give AUM a 2-1 lead.
• Alex Kraus made a fingertip save to his left in the 88th minute to preserve the win for the Warhawks.

• The goal marked the fifth of the season for Oluwautyi, which leads the way for Warhawks and ranks fifth in the GSC.
• Borredon's assist was his third of the campaign and second in as many games for AUM. His three assists rank second on the squad.
• Spickenbaum's goal was also his fifth of the season, tying him for the team lead in that category. 
• Roach posted his second assist of the season.

• "It was a very good performance for our lads against one of the top-ranked teams in the region," said head coach Matthew Thorne. "It was a quality match and our lads worked very hard for each other throughout the match. Now it's time to rest up and focus on a massive derby match on Sunday."
