Baseball Sweeps Series with 8-4 Victory Over Embry-Riddle

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery Baseball Team picked up a series sweep with its 8-4 victory over Embry-Riddle on Sunday, Feb. 13, improving to 4-4 in 2022.

Zach Feaster led AUM at the plate with a two-hit, three-RBI day. Brody Syer also added two runs batted in with one hit, upping his current hitting streak to eight games.

Brook Brannon and Jackson Ceman both also logged a two-hit performance, with Brannon driving in a run and scoring twice and Ceman scoring once.

Kasey Clark and Clayton Phillips both registered a hit and an RBI, with Clark adding a run scored. For the series, Clark posted a team-high six hits in 11 at-bats (.545)

Starting pitcher Clay Slagle (1-1) gave up just one run over four hits in six innings of work to earn the win. The freshman righty struck out eight batters while walking just one.

Mason Elmore and Sam Steigert combined to toss the final three innings, with Steigert tossing the eighth and ninth innings.

AUM wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as a Brannon sacrifice fly to left in the first inning put them on top 1-0. Ceman led off the frame with an infield hit, and was eventually brought around to third on a sac bunt from Clark.

The Warhawks added two more in the third via a two-RBI single from Syer up the middle. A Brannon double to right center that moved Clark up to third helped set up the RBI chance.

After conceding a run to the Eagles on a solo home run in the top of the sixth, the Warhawks would respond by scoring five their next time up to take an 8-1 lead. Feaster delivered the big blow in the inning with a three-RBI double, in addition to RBI knocks from Phillips and Clark.

Embry-Riddle would go on to get a pair of unearned runs in the seventh and one run in the ninth before giving way to the 8-4 final score.

AUM outhit the Eagles for the third-straight day, 11-7. The Warhawks left just six runners on base in the contest while the pitching staff stranded six Eagle base runners.

The Warhawks reached base to lead off an inning in four of eight tries on the day. AUM put pressure on Embry-Riddle all series by reaching base to lead off in 14 of 24 innings.

For the series, AUM batted .369 (38-103), including a mark of .395 (30-76) against right-handers.

The Warhawks will return to the diamond on Tuesday, Feb. 15 for a 5:00 p.m. (CST) contest against Georgia Southwestern from Americus, Ga.
