AMERICUS, Ga. – The Auburn Montgomery Baseball Team logged five two-out RBIs and got 3.2 innings of one-hit relief from
Andrew Cronan on its way to a 6-2 midweek victory over Georgia Southwestern on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
The win marks for the Warhawks' fourth-straight victory and improves their record to 5-4 overall.
Nick Freeman knocked a team-high two base hits with one run and one RBI while
Jackson Ceman drove in a pair of runs with one run scored.
Zach Dew and
Clayton Phillips both logged a hit and an RBI while
Zach Feaster scored two runs with one base hit.
Brody Syer and
Joseph Hartsfield both added a hit, with Syer upping his current hitting streak to nine games.
Cronan (2-1) struck out four batters while walking just one en route to picking up his second victory of the season.
Mason Elmore and
Michael Myers tossed the final two innings of scoreless relief, with Myers striking out a pair.
Starter
Will Collins struck out four batters over 3.1 innings of work, while conceding just two runs on two hits before handing things over to Cronan.
The Warhawks scored their first two runs in the top of the second, when a pair of RBI knocks from Phillips and Freeman put them up 2-0.
The Hurricanes fought back with a solo home run in the the second and a sacrifice fly in the third to tie the game at two-all.
AUM retook the lead in the top of the fifth, when a wild pitch brought home Freeman and a Dew single to right center brought home Ceman to make it 4-2. Freeman got things going with a one-out single to right, followed by Ceman reaching base via error before coming around to score.
The Warhawks added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the sixth when a two-out, two-RBI single up the middle by Ceman brought home Feaster and Phillips.
AUM batted .417 (5-12) on the day with runners in scoring position, with all five of those hits coming with two outs.
The Warhawk pitching staff held the Hurricanes to just a .125 (1-8) average with runners on base. The Orange and Black gave up just one hit and conceded zero walks or hit batsmen after inning number four.
The Warhawks will return to the diamond on Friday, Feb. 18 for a doubleheader at Talladega College beginning at 11:00 a.m.
