Baseball Drops Series Opener to Montevallo

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery Baseball Team fell 6-2 in game one of a three-game weekend set against the University of Montevallo on Saturday, Feb 5.

The loss brings AUM's record to 1-1 on the season. Although a Gulf South Conference opponent, the weekend series with the Falcons does not count towards GSC play.

Micah Christian plated the Warhawks' lone two runs on the day with a two-RBI double. Jackson Ceman and Brody Syer both accounted for a run and a hit while Kasey Clark, Jackson Murphy, Zach Dew, Brook Brannon, and Joseph Hartsfield all added a hit.

Starting pitcher Will Collins (0-1) shouldered the loss. The junior lefty surrendered three earned runs over four innings of work while striking out one.

Jax Morris tossed a team-high two innings of scoreless relief while Mario Galloway and Cole Kehoe both hurled a shutout inning out of the bullpen. Mason Elmore was tagged with three runs with one earned in inning number five.

AUM cracked the scoreboard first in inning number one, when a leadoff single from Ceman followed by a walk to Syer set the stage for Christian's two-out, two-run double to give AUM an early 2-0 advantage.

Montevallo eventually answered in the fourth by plating three runs on four hits, beginning with a leadoff double followed by an RBI single. The Falcons would then get a pair of two-out knocks to claim the lead at 3-2.

The Falcons picked up where they left off in their next at-bat in the fifth with three more runs. A Warhawk throwing error, combined with a two-RBI double with two away, accounted for the damage in the inning.

The Warhawks were held in control until inning number nine, when a trio of walks would load up the bases with two away. AUM would fail to capitalize on the opportunity however, giving way to the 6-2 final.

The baseball team will play games two and three against Montevallo on Sunday, Feb. 6 in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. from Montevallo, Ala.
