Baseball Falls in Series Finale at (RV) West Florida, 9-8

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Despite a three-run ninth-inning rally to tie the game, the Auburn Montgomery Baseball Team fell 9-8 in walk-off fashion in game three of its Gulf South Conference series at West Florida on Sunday, March 27.

With the loss, AUM's record drops to 18-12 overall and 8-7 in GSC action.

Jackson Ceman logged a team-high three hits on the day, with two runs scored and one run driven in. The performance marked for his team-leading 13th multi-hit game of 2022.

Caleb Beaver drove in four runs on a pair of base knocks, including a three-run double to tie the game in the ninth. Zach Dew and Zach Feaster both added a pair of hits and a run scored.

Sam Steigert (1-2) tossed a season-high 4.1 innings en route to the loss. Clay Slagle worked 3.1 innings out of the bullpen while Michael Myers threw inning number one for AUM in the contest.

AUM cracked the scoreboard first, tallying a pair of runs in the first inning on a Clark RBI single to left and an RBI sacrifice fly to center from Brody Syer. Nick Freeman led off the frame by drawing a walk, followed by Ceman reaching base via an Argo fielding error to set the stage for Clark.

The Argos countered in the bottom of the first with three runs on three hits, but AUM would get a run back its next time up in the top of the second on a two-out knock to left from Ceman. Freeman started the two-out rally by working a walk and stealing second before being brought in to tie the game at three.

The third inning saw the Warhawks retake the lead on an RBI single down the left-field line by Beaver but concede two more runs to the Argos in the bottom half to fall back behind 5-4. An RBI groundout, followed by an RBI double to right, accounted for the damage done by UWF in the bottom of the third.

UWF added a pair of RBI singles in the fourth and fifth innings to go up 7-4, but AUM answered with a run on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth to trim its deficit to 7-5. The Argos followed suit with an RBI double in the bottom half of the sixth to go up 8-5.

The Warhawk's ninth-inning rally began with a leadoff single by Ceman to right, followed by a pair of two-out hits from Syer and Feaster to set the stage for Beaver's three-run two-bagger down the left-field line.

West Florida used a one-out single to get things going in the bottom of the ninth, followed by a sacrifice bunt before the walk-off single to left center one batter later.

The Warhawks will return to action on Tuesday, March 29 at Tuskegee for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
