NEW ORLEANS -- The Auburn University at Montgomery women's cross country team earned All-Academic Team honors for posting a 3.57 team grade point average this season, and Nicole Luther and Kenlie Nelson were both named to the All-Academic Team as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Luther, who clocked a 24:16.4 6K time at the NCAA South Regional Championships this fall, sits in seventh place all-time on the Warhawks' career-best 6K list. She also appears in the Top 10 on the 4K and 5K performance lists for AUM.
Nelson garnered Second Team All-GSC honors in her debut season for the Warhawks. Her time of 19:12.70 was good enough to place 17th overall in a field of 97 competitors. She also became the first AUM runner in the NCAA Division II era to earn All-GSC honors.
Overall, there were 146 different programs that were named All-Academic Teams for their efforts during the 2021 season.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, and compile a team score at their respective regional championship meet, among other qualifiers.
12 members of the women's cross country team, under the direction of head coach Ryan Thompson, were also recently named to the Gulf South Conference Academic Honor Roll to cap off a successful season on the course and in the classroom for the Warhawks.
